Rattan Creek is the northern section of the Milwood master development in far northwest Austin, zip code 78729. The neighborhood was built entirely by Milburn Homes from approximately 1984 through 1999, with approximately 2,800 homes in ranch-style and traditional suburban configurations. Homes range from approximately 1,300 to 2,600 square feet with three to four bedrooms. The neighborhood takes its name from Rattan Creek, a wet-weather creek that runs through the area.
The neighborhood sits outside the Austin city limits in unincorporated Williamson County and is governed by North Austin Municipal Utility District No. 1 (MUD #1). The MUD operates Rattan Creek Park, a 13-acre park at Tamayo Drive and Elkhorn Mountain Trail that includes a 280,000-gallon junior Olympic swimming pool with a wading pool, slide, and 12-foot diving well with two diving boards, four lighted tennis courts with resident swipe-card access, a basketball court, sand volleyball, a soccer field, multiple playscapes for toddlers through adults, covered pavilions available for private rental, and concrete hike-and-bike trails throughout the district.
