About Georgetown

Georgetown is the county seat of Williamson County, about 30 miles north of downtown Austin along Interstate 35. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the city's population at 101,344 as of July 1, 2024, up from 67,176 in the 2020 Census; Georgetown crossed the 100,000 mark between 2023 and 2024. It was the fastest-growing U.S. city with at least 50,000 residents in the Bureau's 2022 estimates, growing 14.4 percent that year, and grew a further 10.6 percent in 2023. The city sits where the Blackland Prairie meets the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, with the San Gabriel River and its North and South Forks flowing through the area and converging east of town at Lake Georgetown, a 1,310-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir. The terrain is gently rolling, with limestone bedrock underlying much of the area and elevations around 750 to 850 feet above sea level.
